At the CES 2023 show, BMW released the i Vision Dee concept car. The new car focuses on digitalization, indicating the future digital development direction of the BMW Group. “Dee” stands for Digital Emotional Experience, which means digital emotional experience. This represents the BMW Group’s vision, emphasizing that the emotional bond between humans and machines will become increasingly important in the future.
In terms of styling, the BMW i Vision Dee concept car adopts a minimalist design and focuses on digital experience. The vehicle design inherits BMW brand DNA and iconic designs, such as angel eye headlights, kidney grille, Hofmeister corners, etc.
In addition, the vehicle's headlights and closed kidney grille form a common "material" icon (a fusion of physical and digital) on a uniform surface, whose state can be changed through E Ink technology. This enables display of facial expressions. The i Vision Dee concept car can converse with people and express emotions such as joy, surprise or approval. By using various sensors, the vehicle can record the identity and location of the person, and when the person approaches the vehicle, the relevant actions will be recorded. When a driver is detected walking toward the cockpit, the doors automatically open to welcome him. The vehicle can also project the driver's avatar icon onto the side window to create a more personalized welcome scene.
Inside the vehicle, digital functions replace analog elements, giving the vehicle its own human-like digital character. This concept is reflected in the vehicle's design. The vertical spokes go against tradition and take a central position, giving them a new function. When touching or approaching the left and right sides of the center of the steering wheel at thumb level, the interface will wake up and can be operated by moving your thumbs. These interfaces serve as "physical touch points", follow the principle of "hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road ahead", and can control the windshield information display content.
Combined with the advanced head-up display system, the BMW Mixed Reality Slider, as the central control system of the i Vision Dee concept car, is a digital highlight. Via ShyTech sensors (touch) on the dashboard, the driver can select the level of digital content they want to see on the head-up display. The display content is divided into four levels, from simulation, augmented reality to completely virtual world.
